Why?
August 8th, 2011
For 7 1/2 years, I fought to keep homeless families filled with enough hope for them to discover that they can achieve self-sufficiency, at least as it applies to their finances and decision-making. But for a long time, I’ve wanted to do something more, something deeper, and something less tangible, but more important: I wanted to help the multitudes of families, that though they may not be suffering from homelessness, they are suffering from a hopelessness that comes from broken homes, broken relationships, and broken dreams. They live in their homes, pretending to have things all together, when in reality they are bankrupt emotionally and spiritually. And their children are paying the price.
For the past year, we’ve been living out this new journey, though we haven’t always known where this adventure would go, but I am trusting God with the tools, resources, and the guidance on this new path. We’ll be going where no pay-check is always guaranteed, no scripts have been written, and no path has been blazed. I invite you to come along and discover with me what happens when God picks a middle-aged man and his family to follow Him and set out on a new course to change the world, one family at a time.
On the eve of our first year anniversary of this new ministry, I’ve been asking myself what this blog is all about; how to “focus” it on something meaningful. Yet, I keep coming back to “story” and that this is merely my single verse in the bigger Story of God’s Grace and Truth. It is more about my heart just putting words to the journey than screaming anything of value to the world, though I trust God to use those words to His Glory. So, I quit trying to come up with fancy titles and now name it merely, “Eric Haynes”. For I am nothing more than a servant of Christ Jesus, ready to pick up the banner of His cause and journey towards the abundant life He promises for all those who give up their lives for the sake of Him.
